Cross River Rail Project  - January/February updates

02/02/2023
Teams have now completed Woolloongabba - Albert Street and Boggo Road - Woolloongabba sections in both directions, Roma Street to the Northern Portal 1.2 km in the upline and 750 m in the downline.    The Cross River Rail project includes 5.9 km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD, with a portal at either end providing access into and out of the tunnels with the underground stations: Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street.    The southern tunnel portal is being constructed between Dutton Park station and the new underground Boggo Road station, while the northern tunnel portal is being built near Victoria Park at Normanby.  When construction is completed and Cross River Rail is operational, these two portals will be the gateways into and out of the new underground rail network.    Northern Tunnel Portal  The Northern Tunnel Portal site now has the key milestone of the structure being fully enclosed. Construction of the topping slab and backfill of the remaining roof area will then be undertaken throughout 2023.    Under the structure, the team has finished the permanent internal walls and has started installing rail and electrical services within the tunnel between the Northern Tunnel Portal and the new Albert Street station.     Southern Tunnel Portal  In 2023 the Southern Tunnel Portal and Boggo Road station teams will continue to deliver major  milestones, including major structural works for the station building and the new pedestrian and  cycle bridge.  Major deliveries of steel, concrete and precast concrete segments will be the focus across the  area in February and March 2023.    Boggo Road station   Installation of precast concrete beams that form the mezzanine level of the station continues. Throughout 2023, construction of the station will progress with installation of steel, concrete and precast concrete segments.  Construction activities include:  * Ongoing steel installation within the station box  * Concrete pours scheduled overnight or in the early hours of the morning  * Arrival and installation of precast concrete segments at night due to the size and traffic permit requirements  * Delivery of equipment and materials via Boggo Road, Joe Baker Street and Peter Doherty Street (including night works).  Woolloongabba station   Woolloongabba station is progressing with mechanical and electrical fit out within the station caverns, tunnels and basement levels of the future station building. Since the end of 2022, teams have completed mezzanine beam installation in the north and south caverns and finished track installation within the tunnel south to Boggo Road. Work to build the train platform in the north and south caverns is ongoing.        Albert Street station   Albert Street station is starting to take shape as the focus in 2023 continues to be construction of the new station buildings. Concreting, steel fixing and site facility adjustments continue for both the main station entrance site (Lot 1) and northern station entrance site (Lot 3). Tunnelling and support activities within the acoustic shed and in the underground cavern (Lot 2) are on going. The permanent cavern arch lining - 30 m beneath Albert Street - is nearing completion. The team has started to install precast mezzanine segments which will form the mezzanine level of the station.    Roma Street  station   In January, the Roma Street site team celebrated a new milestone with the main station building reaching ground level. Work will start to prepare the site for installation of the station canopy toward the middle of the year. Within the cavern, work continues to complete the mezzanine level and back of house structures.    Click au/37 for the tunnelbuilder archive and visit https://crossriverrail.qld.gov.au/. 05/23.
