Infrastructure Ministry reports that it is to apply a 1998 budget surplus of US$150 million to a proposed metro for Maracaibo. Construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2000. November 1999.Electrowatt Engineering Ltd helping evaluate bids for Metro de Maracaibo Line 1 with US$150 million budget. Four companies have bid: Alstom, Spie-Enertrans/Bombardier, Siemens and a Spanish consortium led by CAF, joined in each case by a civil contractor. Line 1 under construction by jv of Ghella/Sogene/Dragados/FCC/Otipsa as 9 m-wide x 4.7 m-high rectangular tunnels. Walls poured in sections of 6 linear metres daily, roof in sections of 42 linear metres weekly. October 1999.  Award of $40 million, 4 km-long, 9.5 m-diameter section of Line 1 with seven cut and cover stations to Ghella Sogene. Metro Line 4

  Six consortia prequalified to build 6 km underground line to run parallel with Line 1 and connect Capuchinos and Plaza Venezuela. Nov 1998.   Contract award to Consorcio de Brasil, led by Odebrecht, which bid US$101 million for the first phase of Line 4 consisting of 5 km of track with four stations. November 1999.   First phase with four stations will link Capuchinos on Line 2 with Plaza Venezuela III on Line 3, relieving the central section of Line 1. Civil engineering work will be undertaken by Norberto Odebrecht of Brazil, which bid US$101.2 million. The second phase of Line 4 will run southeast from Plaza Venezuela to El Cafetal, bringing the length to 12.4 km. Caracas Metro hopes to complete this extension by 2010. December 1999.  Excavation start on 6th December, 2001 of TBM-driven Plaza Venezuela-Capuchinos section on Line 4 by contractor Odrebrecht. Four new stations in Plaza Venezuela, Parque Central, Nuevo Circo, and Teatros. Expected daily speed of 14 metres. Completion in December 2003. Cost of US$460 million. Second phase extension planned between Plaza Venezuela and Parque del Este, for US$600 million. Project overall route length of 13.4 km is split into two stages. First stage is construction of 3.9 km-long Deo Ca tunnel through Dai Lanh mountain to connect central provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa costing EUR560 million under BOT agreement funded in part by EUR143.5 million from Vietnam JSC Bank for Industry and Trade, Vietinbank. The consortium Poyry, ILF Beratende Ingenieure GmbH, Obermeyer Planen + Beraten, and Tedi South secured a contract to provide services for the design, tender documentation and site supervision phases for Line 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro. The project will start in February 2012, and the duration of the design and tender documentation phase will be 18 months. The site supervision phase will last an additional 5 years. Cavico Hydropower Construction signed the EUR5.67 million construction contract with Song Giang Hydropower Joint Stock Company for the Song Giang 1 hydropower plant in Khanh Vinh District of Khanh Hoa Province in central Vietnam. The twin-unit plant, which is located 50 km from Nha Trang city, will have a 24MW annual capacity. Cavico will excavate and construct a total of 3.5 km tunnels and a surge tank. Cavico Hydropower, a Vietnam based corporation, has announced completion of the 180 MW Dong Nai 3 hydropower station with 655 m-long x 8 m-wide headrace tunnel, 73 m-long incline tunnel and associated works. On 22.03.2010 Cavico Corporation (Vietnam) signed a USD$11 million contract for tunnel construction at a 42 MW hydropower plant in Ha Giang province, some 210 km northwest of Hanoi, owned by Song Bac Hydropower JSC. Cavico will construct a 4,100 m-long, 3.8 m-diameter cross tunnel; a 143 m-long, 3.8 m-diameter incline tunnel; a 315 m-long adit; a 73 m-high surge tank; and a water intake gate. Cavico Corp. announced that Cavico Transportation, its wholly owned subsidiary, has signed a contract, estimated to be approximately USD9.43 million, for tunnel construction at Huoi Quang hydropower plant. The total length of tunnel is 9,895.89 metres. Its external diameter is 9 m and the internal diameter equals 7.5 m. The geology is porphyric rock and rhyolite. The planned method of excavation is drill and blast and conventional excavator equipped with bucket. The planned techniques for support and lining are wire mesh, rock bolts, sprayed concrete with concrete admixtures and steel arches. The planned technique for transportation of excavated rock is loaders and dumper trucks. Cavico Transportation has initiated the process of transporting both equipment and personnel to the site. The expected date for start of excavation works is April 2008. The engineering consultancy supervising the works is Power Engineering Consulting Company No 1 (PECC1). Cavico Corp. has been awarded an USD11.3 million contract to construct the headrace tunnel at the Dambri hydropower plant. The tunnel, which will connect the water intake and the pressure shaft, will be approximately 5 km long with a diameter of 3.66 to 4.30 m. Cavico plans to begin work on the tunnel by the end of this month. The Dambri hydropower plant is located 140 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City in Da Huoai village, near Da Teh city in Lam Dong province. Owned by South Hydropower Joint Stock Company, the USD80 million plant will have a 75 MW capacity. The latest contract with Southern Hydropower Joint Stock Company is to construct a 3.2 km-long and 3.66 m to 4.30 m-wide section of the headrace tunnel. This brings Cavico's total awards at the Dambri hydropower plant to an estimated USD34.3 million, further to the USD11.3 million contract for the first section of the headrace tunnel announced in early January 2008 and a USD3.75 million contract to build the access and service road in July 2007.
