France - Studies continue for the future Metro line E in Lyon

10/02/2020

In June 2019, a preliminary consultation was carried out for the new Lyon metro line E project. Sytral chose the Alai - Bellecour route with the following 6 stations: Alai, Liberation, Menival, Point-du-Jour, Saint-Irenee and Bellecour. Some complementary technical studies will also be carried out for the feasibility analysis of an extension of Line E to the Part-Dieu station east of Bellecour (with the aim of putting it into operation in 2030) and a subsequent extension to the west.

The consultation revealed the need to evaluate the potential increase in the flow of passengers in the Bellecour station, already an interchange with  the A and D metro lines.

In December 2019 Sytral, Egis Rail and Kisio conducted a study in the Bellecour station to quantify the current flows of travellers and the relative distribution between the platforms of the metro  lines A and D and the entrances and exits of the station, to calculate the average travel time in the station and the travel speed of the passengers. The analysis of the data collected will allow a better design of the future stations.

At the end of 2019, the following studies were carried out: -

• geotechnical surveys to create an accurate map of the underground soil that allows to identify the best excavation technique to be used;

• analysis of the buildings along the route to establish their general conditions, identify the possible presence of cellars, wells or underground tunnels.

The analysis of the collected data will allow for the optimisation  of the metro line E alignment and the position of the stations. Click here and fr/145 for the tunnelbuilder archive. Connect to http://www.sytral.fr/559-metro-e.htm.
