AlpTransit Gotthard has decided not to try to recover the 12 months lost during a legal dispute about the contracts awarded for the Ceneri Base Tunnel railway system. As a result, the tunnel will not come into service in 2019 as planned, but probably a year later in December, 2020. Meanwhile, tunnelling is proceeding well, with the west tunnel needing 1,085 m of excavation to reach the Vigana portal, and the east tunnel 1,160 m. Breakthrough is expected early-2016.
