  6.8 km extension planned from Nadr Holesovice to Letnany to comprise 1.2 km twin-track tunnel and 5.6 km of single-track tunnel driven in sedimentary rocks. First phase studies for $220 million contracts will be completed October, 1999 with a view to starting tunnelling work in mid-2000 for completion in 2004. Second phase to follow two years later. Public finance with a mixture of local and central funding. August 1999.   Proposed 3.9 km extension of C4 line in rock from Prague 7 at Holesovice railway station to Prague 8 satellite town north of the city using NATM techniques. Five stations, one of which is cut-and-cover and four to be mined. Part twin tunnel, part single. In final design for 2001 construction start. Line D also in preliminary design. The assignment involves a 4.6 km extension in northern Prague from Ladvi station to Letnany, including three new stations. About 40% of the stretch is through tunnels. Skanska's share amounts to about CZK3.6 billion, which is 37% of the entire project valued at about CZK 9.8 billion. Work begins in May for completion scheduled in end 2007. Visit www.skanska.com, www.metrostav.cz and www.subterra.cz 20/04.The 4.6 km Latvi-Letnany extension to Line C awarded to Skanska, Metrostav and Subterra includes 2,195 m of 60-100 sq m double-track tunnel, 2 x 65 m of single-track tunnel and 2,356 m of cut-and-cover tunnel including the stations. Three cut-and-cover underground stations: Prosek I (211 m-long x 20 m-wide x 5.6 m-high), Prosek II (205 m x 20 m x 10.6 m) and Letnany (591 m x 25 m x 10.3 m). Letnany station includes the tracks for the depot. Geology will consist of claystone, marlstone and sandstone. The planned excavation methods are drill/blast (1,350 m), roadheader (910 m) and cut-and-cover (2,356 m). Lining in accordance with NATM with shotcrete without fibres, rock bolts, lattice girders and wire mesh. Dump trucks will be used for the mucking-out. Tunnelling to start in September 2004. 22/04.
