On the 29.04.2016 the consortium of Doprastav-Vahostav-Strabag-Metrostav completed the excavation for the 2km twin tube Ovciarsko tunnel, which is close to Zilina. The 11 km Hricovske Podhradie - Lietavska Lucka section of the D1 motorway is part of the E 50 international transport route leading from Paris via Nuremberg and Prague through the Ukraine to Russia. It  includes the Ovciarsko and Zilina tunnels built using the NATM method and it will cost when finished EUR 427.2 million, with a  € 375.8 million contribution from the EU. The end of construction is planned for early 2018. 

The Zilina tunnel, the second on the same stretch, is going to be completed at the end of 2016. The southern Zilina tube will be 687 m long, with a 36 m part which will be exposed, the northern tube will be 684 m long, with a 48 m exposed part. Two cross passages will link the two tubes.
