Himalayan headrace excavation commencedThe specially designed 6.18 m-diameter Seli DSU TBM has completed its first run in the Kishanganga tunnel project. The TBM, designed to bore through difficult rock formations under the Himalayas, where unstable and squeezing ground conditions are expected, will drive 14.6 km of the 24 km headrace for the 330 MW Kishanganga project, developed by NHPC Ltd in Jammu & Kashmir province, India.
