On the 5th of February 3 new TBMs manufactured by Herrenknecht were christened at the Verden site in Le Bourget, France. The consortium led by Eiffage-Génie Civil will use them to carry out work on sections of lines 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express. The number of TBMs used in this project has now risen to 17.
The first TBM was christened Bantan, a name chosen by the La Courneuve’s Municipal Council of children in honour of Bantan Diarra, the first female firefighter in La Courneuve. The TBM will build 3.8 km of tunnels for lines 16 and 17 to the Canal shaft in Aubervilliers.
The second TBM was christened Ines, a name chosen by university students from the Seine-Saint-Denis department, in honour of Ines Seddiki, president of the Ghett’up association which organizes meetings to work on self-confidence and collective trust. The TBM will excavate 3.1 km of tunnels to the Hugo site in Blanc-Mesnil, for line 16.
The third TBM was christened Dorine: the name chosen by Le Bourget’s Municipal Council of Children, in honour of Dorine Bourneton, the first paraplegic acrobatic pilot in the world. She performed her first acrobatic demonstration at the International Paris Air Show in 2015. The TBM will build the first 1.3 km tunnel up to the Rolland structure and a second 1.4 km tunnel (in 2021) in Le Bourget for line 17.
