Experts Invited to Workshop and Fire Test on Water Mist SystemsIntensive research work over the last decade has shown that fixed automatic firefighting systems considerably can increase safety in road and rail tunnels. In 2004, the research project SOLIT (Safety Of Life In Tunnels), supported by the German Ministry of Economy and Technology and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, was started to develop efficient fire suppression systems for tunnels. The goal of this research project is to fully integrate fixed firefighting systems into the infrastructure of tunnels. The project is supervised by a highly experienced scientific board. Beside the project leader Fogtec, other well known technology owners are partners in this research project. As part of the SOLIT project, large-scale fire tests are carried out to evaluate effects of water mist suppression systems in conjunction with other safety systems during serious tunnel fires. As a highlight of this large-scale fire test series, selected tunnel experts are invited to a workshop at a test tunnel, including presentations by safety experts, a discussion forum and large-scale tests. This workshop will take place on 24th and 25th May, 2006 at the San Pedro de Anes test tunnel near Gijon in Asturias, northern Spain and in a hotel nearby for the discussion forum and presentations. Details of the workshop and the research project are available at
