The Bözberg tunnel's slab track has been completed with the installation of the last sleeper. A great moment for all those involved and an important milestone for the largest single project of the 4-meter corridor, which will be completed in mid-December 2020.
The construction teams installed a total of 13,000 m3 of concrete of the slab track, brought 13,800 sleeper blocks into the tunnel and laid 8.2 km of rails. After the Bözberg tunnel is completed, semi-trailers with a height of four meters can be transported by rail.
SBB will complete the work in the tunnel at the end of June 2020. The test operation will run from the end of May to the end of October 2020. A rescue exercise will then take place in mid-August, during which, among other things, the blue light organizations will practice for emergencies. The Bözberg tunnel will go into operation on December 13, 2020, thus ensuring more trains on the north-south axis.
