Paiesco tunnel on SS337 in Val Vigezzo opens The new single-bore 1,431 m-long, 9% gradient Paiesco tunnel opened on 24.05.2010, by-passing one of the most critical sections of the SS 337 Val Vigezzo section. The 12.6 m-diameter tunnel, which was excavated by contractor BTP Spa from a single end by drill/blast using an Atlas Copco three-boom rig, is equipped with lighting, ventilation, fire detection and air quality measurement systems.
