Marathon Robbins TBM completes PingluOn 14.11.2010 a veteran Robbins Double Shield completed one of the world's longest single-drive TBM tunnels, the 25.4 km Pinglu section of the Yellow River water diversion project, in difficult geology. Maximum advance rates were 70 m/day. On an earlier leg of the same project, this machine set a world record in its class of 1,855 m in one month. It is impossible to describe the sheer remoteness of the site, and the physical effects of an 80 degree annual temperature range.
