E-mail martaalr@princast.es 05/07.The construction contract of the Cornellana-Puerto de Cerrado road bypass and Ranadoiro tunnel on road AS-15 has been awarded to a JV formed by Ferrovial Agroman, OCA and Aglomerados Asfalticos, for EUR40.6 million. The time frame for completion is 36 months. The existing 6 m-wide road, without shoulders, climbs a steep slope with sharp curves (very small radius up to 24 metres) and, above all, crosses the Ranadoiro Pass through a small tunnel, at an altitude of 1,181 metres. The new project shortens the existing path by 7.6 km. The road will carry two 3.5 m-wide lanes and 0.5 m shoulders. In its first 400 metres, the new platform follows basically the existing AS-15. Then, the alignment leaves the current road and reconnects with it near Rengos. The future disused road, with a length of some 4.8 km, will be demolished and the area will be completely rehabilitated. The 1,868.36 m-long Ranadoiro tunnel begins at chainage 0+435. The tunnel, which will be wider than the open air road for safety reasons, includes two 3.5 m-wide lanes and 0.5 m shoulders, 0.75 pavements on both sides and a 0.4 m median strip with horizontal indicators. The south portal will be built using forepoling and retaining walls. The tunnel will be excavated by conventional methods and will be equipped, among other things, with lighting (normal, security and emergency), automatic ventilation, double power supply, emergency generators, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), SOS call stations, and fire shelters. Visit www.ferrovial.es 15/07.A joint venture of GOC and Seinco landed a EUR790,000 contract for site supervision as well as health and safety coordination during construction of the 1.9 km Raí±adoiro tunnel on the Cornellana-Cerredo Pass section of road AS-15 at Raí±adoiro Pass. The JV will build the Folledo access adit (1,950 m), to be mined by conventional means and a 60 m cut-and-cover tunnel at the portal, both to be completed during the first 14 months of the project, concurrently with a 230 m open cut to access to the portals on the Leí³n side. Once this is completed, four months will be needed to mine the Folledo cavern using conventional means. This cavern is necessary for geological reasons at the junction between the access adit and the future tunnels. The TBMs will be assembled in the cavern to drive 8 km of tunnels uphill until the portals located on the Leí³n side. Time frame: 32 months. At the same time, from the cavern, 2 x 2.5 km of tunnel will be excavated by conventional means heading downhill. Finally, 40 m-long cut-and-cover tunnels will be built at the Leí³n portals. The project also encompasses the building of the cross passages between the twin tunnels. Contract 1 also has a 18-month time frame for the assembly of the TBMs. Visit www.fcc.es and www.necso.es 22/03.Contract 2, section Folledo-Viadangos, has been awarded to a JV of Dragados, ACS and Obras Subterrí¡neas for €417.8 million. The JV will build the inmediate access to the Viadangos shafts and the cavern necessary for the junction with the tunnels, using conventional means. This will take the first two years of the project. Afterwards, 4 km of the Pajares tunnels will be bored using conventional means (San Emiliano geological formation), some 1,600 m downwhill and 2,400 m uphill. The cross passages between the two bores are also included. Time frame: 5 years. Visit www.dragados.es, www.grupoacs.com and www.obrassubterraneas.es 22/03.Both for contracts 1 and 2, the time frame for design is 4 months and 60 months for construction. 22/03.For contract 3, section Viadangos-Telledo (tunnel east), the eight bidders are Aldesa Construcciones / Tableros y Puentes / Construcciones Paraí±o / Construcciones Sí¡nchez Domínguez Sando; Corsí¡n-Corviam / Coprosa / Comsa; FCC / Necso; Copcisa / Ferní¡ndez Constructor / Azvi / Constructora Hispí¡nica; OHL; Ploder / Vinci; Ferrovial-Agromí¡n / Sacyr / Cavosa; and Dragados / ACS / Obras Subterrí¡neas. 22/03.The seven candidates who have bidded for contract 4, section Viadangos-Telledo (tunnel west) are: Aldesa Construcciones / Tableros y Puentes / Construcciones Paraí±o / Construcciones Sí¡nchez Domínguez Sando; Corsí¡n-Corviam / Coprosa / Comsa; FCC / Necso; Copcisa / Ferní¡ndez Constructor / Azvi / Constructora Hispí¡nica; OHL; Ferrovial-Agromí¡n / Sacyr / Cavosa; and Dragados / ACS / Obras Subterraneas. 22/03.Contract 3 for the design and construction of the Pajares tunnels has been awarded to a JV of Ferrovial-Agromí¡n, Sacyr and Cavosa for €239.19 million. Times frames are four months for design, 18 months for assembly of the TBM and 58 months for construction. Contract 4 also starts in Viadangos and ends in Telledo. It comprises of the west tunnel starting on the Asturian side. It also includes the construction of cross galleries between the two bores. The two single-track Pajares tunnels, 25 km in length, will feature a minimum cross section of 52 square metres. Cross passages will be drilled every 400 metres and a place for connection between the two main tunnels, located about half-way, will be excavated to allow trains to swap tracks if needed and for maintenance and emergency.According to planning, work will be completed in 2009.
