In September, 2009 the Swedish Road Authority decided to give a go-ahead for the Förbifart Stockholm, or Stockholm Bypass. The new 21 km-long motorway between Kungens kurva (E 4/E 20) in southern Stockholm and Häggvik (E 4) in northern Stockholm will have 17 km of tunnels.
