The Twin Tunnels project on the North Shore is nearing completion near Vancouver, Canada. Two tunnels, 3.8 m in diameter and 7.1 km long, have been constructed beneath Grouse Mountain and Mount Fromme to allow for water from the Capilano Reservoir to be treated at the new Seymour-Capilano Filtration Plant.
From March to May, 2015 Metro Vancouver crews will bring the Capilano Raw Water Pump Station, the Capilano Energy Recovery Facility, the Twin Tunnels and related equipment at the Seymour-Capilano Filtration Plant into full operation.
After over ten years of underground and surface construction, these Twin Tunnels are now in the commissioning phase and the system is being tested to prepare for full operation. Final testing of the Seymour-Capilano Twin Tunnels began on 10.03.2015 with flushing of the Treated Water Tunnel into the Capilano Reservoir. Click here, here and ca/25 for tunnelbuilder archive.
