Open call for bids, deadline 5th November, 2003 for completion of the Sykia dam. There are six grouting and drainage tunnels at three different levels totalling 2,961 m. The remaining length to build is 1,034 m, cross section 10.42 sq m. Also to build is an additional diversion tunnel, length 1,409 m, cross section 13.80 m. Mainly Cretaceous and Jurassic limestone plus flysch. Drill/blast method. Rockbolts and shotcrete as support with HEB steel supports if needed. Mucking-out with wheel loaders and dumper trucks. Design and technical consultancy by PPC / DAYE. Work supervision by EYDE and OSYE. Financing by the Greek government. Open call for bids, deadline 24th September, 2003 for construction in the area of Prasson, western Crete of a 3,320 m-long 13 sq m tunnel for the passage of a pipeline that will transport water from the Amari dam to the plain of Rethimno for irrigation and drinking water. Also construction of a drainage tunnel, length 140 m and inner cross section 6.5 sq m, and an obstruction tunnel in the area of the Amari dam. Contractor Michaniki has been awarded a €32.6 million contract from DEH, the public power corporation, to build the 1,050 m-long 68 sq m Mesochora Dam tunnel, the 470 m-long 78 sq m Pachtouriou tunnel and the 1,100 m-long 10 sq m Mesochora drainage tunnel. The Mesochora Dam and the Pachtouriou tunnels are road tunnels to improve the Arta-Trikala highway. The Mesochora Dam tunnel will cut through Cretaceous limestone and Tertiary flysch, which in the area consists mainly of clay, siltstone and sandstone. Two Atlas Copco jumbo drill rigs will be used simultaneously from two drives. Support with rockbolts, steel fibre-reinforced shotcrete, lattice girders, forepoles and grouted fiberglass dowels.The Pachtouriou tunnel, which already exists, will be widened within Cretaceous limestone using the drill/blast method. The Mesochora drainage tunnel will be constructed to solve slope stability problems. It will cut through flysch. A roadheader boom excavator will be used. Seven consortia have expressed interest for a road scheme, a part of which requires an undersea tunnel in the harbour. They are: Siragga Thermaikou (Vinci, JNP, Avax, and Etaria Teknikon Thessaloniki); Transport Thessaloniki (Strabag, Bilfinger Berger and Aegek); Thermaiki Odos (Helliniki Teknodomiki, Aktor, Boskalis International, Archirodon, and Themeliodomi); an unnamed consortium (Bouygues, Autoroutes du Sud de la France, Alte, and Volker Stevin); Possidon (Hochtief, Dragados, Ballast Nedam, and Athena); Philippos (Impregilo, GEK, Terna, Avete, Ampedos, and NCC); and finally Thescros (FCC, E. Pihl & Sí¸n, Cl Sarantopoulos, Pantexniki, Attikat, Macquarie International, Peiraios Bank, and Cowi). The winning bidder will design, build, finance, maintain and operate the road under concession. The project is budgeted at €320 million. The Greek government is to contribute up to €60 million. 41/02.Six out of seven candidates have been prequalified for the harbour tunnel. Consortium Philippos led by Impregilo is the only eliminated. The remaining candidates will be invited to collect the design plans this week and the invitation to tender, technical documents and draft concession agreement will be sent in August. A three-month period will then open for the candidates to submit their offer, which is planned in November 2003. A committee will assess the bids and recommend a preferred bidder, which is planned by year-end or in early 2004. Then, the client should close a financial deal and assign the contract, which is estimated to take another four months. Finally, the project will be submitted to Parliament approval. The tunnel will comprise an immersed section (2 x 1,240 m) with two connecting land tunnels at each side (2 x 1,086 m and 594 m + 1,072 m). 29/03.Five consortia have submitted technical and economical offers for the concession contract for the harbour tunnel which includes an immersed section (2 x 1,240 m) and two connecting tunnels at each end (2 x 1,086 m and 594 m + 1,072 m). The preferred bidder is expected to be announced in March 2005. Estimated cost is EUR322.8 million. 49/04.Thermaiki Odos, a Greek-Dutch consortium including Elliniki Technodomiki, Aktor, Archirodon Group, Themeliodomi and Boskalis International, won the tender for a 30-year concession contract for the Thessaloniki harbour tunnel including an immersed section (2 x 1,240 m) and two connecting tunnels at each end (2 x 1,086 m and 594 m + 1,072 m). The offer submitted by the consortium puts the contribution of the Greek government to construction and operation at EUR66.5 million. Construction will take four years once the contract is signed. The estimated cost of the tunnel is EUR322.8 million. 20/05.Following unprecedented delays, the concession agreement for the Thessaloinki submerged tunnel was signed on 31st October, 2006. The agreement ties in the Greek Ministry of Public Works, the concession company Thermaiki Odos, and the initial shareholders to the completion of the deal. The project cost is EUR472 million, of which about EUR100 million will be funded by the Greek State, EUR60 million from the sponsors, whilst the remainder is put up by the commercial bank and EIB loans. Hellenic Technodomiki has a 50% stake in the venture while Archirodon and Boskalis control 32.5% and 17.5% respectively. The consortium will build a 6.5 km underwater tunnel and operate the concession for 30 years. Pharros Consulting Engineers), Makarounis Constantin and Emmanouilides George, and German partner IHS (Ingenieurbüro Heitfeld-Schetelig). The contract comprises the design of three two-lane single tube mined tunnels (tunnel S1: 350 m, tunnel S2: 360 m, tunnel S3: 410 m), each 10.5 m wide plus walkways, and 70 m-long two-lane and 500 m-long four-lane cut-and-cover tunnels. WBI is in charge of the design of the mined tunnels. DOMI is in charge of the design of the cut-and-cover tunnels. Job involves six drill/blast tunnels of 7 km total length. One third are complete and lined, another 1.5 km have been excavated, and the remainder are in design. Three consecutive tunnels with total length 6 km under construction in limestone and flysch by jv of C I Sarantopoulos, Athina, Attikat and Terna. Mainly hydraulic face excavator under umbrella drilled using Puntel drillrig, setting single-web steel arches at 1 m intervals. Some drill/blast using Tamrock 205 drillrig, advancing with extreme care beneath medieval castle. Ribbed bar 4 m x 25 mm grouted rockbolts with some micropiles. Normet Spraymec shotcrete jumbo. Final lining installed using Cifa 12 m x 6.18 m radius self-reacting formworks. October 1999.  Excavation complete. Final lining will commence shortly as a separate contract. March 2000.
