On October 4, the final excavation phase of the Bjonnas Tunnel using the NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method) was successfully completed! Crews excavated nearly 450,000 cubic meters of rock, some of which will be repurposed as fill material for the freeway.
The Langangen - Rugtvedt E18 motorway project is one of Norway’s most significant infrastructure developments, connecting the major urban centers of Oslo and Kristiansand. This 17 km section, linking the towns of Langangen and Rugtvedt, includes several key structures, such as the Bjonnas twin-tube tunnel (2 x 2.5 km) and the Grenland tunnel (5.1 km).
With the excavation complete, teams are now moving forward with paving, roadworks, and the installation of electromechanical systems in the tunnels.
