Press Release - H53 Pfons-Brenner construction site: the first segments reach the construction site
The two TBMs Wilma and Olga - which from September 2024 will dig and line the twin tube 7.5km tunnels of the H53 Pfons-Brennero lot in a northerly direction – are currently in the assembly phase.
For lot H53 Pfons-Brennero, it has not been possible to produce the segments directly on site due to limited spaces. Therefore the Max Bögl Group from Sengenthal, Bavaria, has been contracted to produce over 54,000 segments for a total of 530,000 tonnes. These will be transported by rail instead of by road.
The H53 Pfons-Brenner lot, the largest in the Austrian project area, has adopted cutting-edge engineering solutions, which aim to simultaneously preserve the natural habitats of the project area.
Construction site H41 Sill-Pfons Gorge: Lilia reaches the 3 km milestone
On Saturday 15th June, TBM Lilia - launched on 2 May 2023 - reached 3 km of advancement. It has excavated 348,900 m³ of rock and directly installed the lining of the tunnel. Each ring is made up of 6 precast concrete segments weighing 60 t each.
The TBM after having passed the Viggartal and Walzn fault zones without any significant problems, will now continue with the excavation of the last 5.4 km. The final destination will be the municipality of Navis. To date, approximately 20,000 segments have been laid in the two tunnels which have been produced by the factory inside the construction site.
