Highways England has shortlisted the following three international groups to build the EUR1.85 bn (GBP1.7bn) Stonehenge tunnel: BM JV (Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and J Murphy & Sons Ltd), HD JV (Hochtief Infrastructure GmbH and Dragados SA) and MORE JV (FCC Construccion SA -42.5%, Salini Impregilo SPA-42,5% and BeMo Tunnelling UK Ltd -15%). The three groups in the next 6 months will have a competitive dialogue with Highways England. They have to submit their final tenders by October. The winner will be announced in 2021.
At the beginning of March in the 2020 budget document from the UK government confirmed the funding of the new, high-quality dual carriageway and of the two-mile tunnel in the South West to speed up journeys on the A303 removing traffic from the iconic setting of Stonehenge.
The government is transforming regional connections through the largest ever investment in England’s motorways and major A roads.
