Prior information notice without call for competition for
the A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down project which passes through the Stonehenge,
Avebury and Associated Sites World Heritage Site (WHS).
Highways England, charged with operating, maintaining and
improving England's motorways and major A roads, wishes to formally make the
market aware of potential opportunities in relation to the project.
The project comprises of a new dual, two-lane carriageway
approximately 13 km long between Amesbury and Berwick Down consisting of a bypass to the north of Winterbourne Stoke
with a viaduct over the River Till; a new junction between the A303 and A360 to
the west of and outside the WHS, replacing the existing Longbarrow Roundabout;
a twin-bore tunnel through the WHS and past Stonehenge c.2 miles in length; a
new junction between the A303 and A345 at the existing Countess Roundabout.
