Gruner AG from Baselsecure the CHF3.56 million contract, excluding VAT, for engineering services during the planning stages for the construction of a tunnel under the Rhine between Birsfelden and the northern bypass / branch Wiesel in Basel. To the south the new road would be connected to the junction of Birsfelden, where the road would be then be continued in an underground tunnel. The connection is expected in the vicinity of the north exit of the bridge ramp Klybeck and Wiese, allowing traffic relief on the existing national road to and from France and towards Basel-Allschwil Kannenfeld. A possible additional connection from and towards Germany can be built at a later time if needed.
