The section has a length of 14,960 m, whereof 12,035 m in tunnel to cross Collserola. The outer diameter will be 5.8 m and the inner diameter 5.2 m. There will also be a 5 m-diameter 75 m-deep surge shaft, two 21 sq m intermediate access adits of 744 m and 350 m, and a third adit of 28 sq m and 813 m in length. The expected geology is brown and sericitic slates, granodiorites, schists, calcareous silicated rock and porphyric intrusions. It is planned to use two double shield TBMs and line the tunnel with prefabricated reinforced concrete segments. A muck train will be used for rock haulage. Tenders for construction are scheduled to be invited in October. Work to start in the first quarter of 2007 for completion in the fourth quarter of 2009. The estimated cost amounts to EUR130 million.
