E-mail cpublic@mfom.es 04/06.The Ministry of public works awarded the San Pedro Alcantara underground crossing on the A-7 to OHL for a total of EUR49.9 million, which is EUR18.73 million less than the tender estimate.The 5.95 km project will start southeast of San Pedro Alcantara and end in the vicinity of Puerto Banus. It will connect with the Mediterranean highway A-7. The route, which currently follows the alignment of the old road N-340 until the outskirts of Puerto Banus, will run underground in a section of approx. 1,075 metres to avoid two of three sets of traffic lights at Marques del Duero and El Ingenio junctions. In addition, the new link will enable drivers to avoid long traffic queues through the city centre of San Pedro Alcantara during peak tourist seasons. The scheme plans two 3.5 m lanes per direction. Construction will take 30 months.
