Public hearings are under way for the Sa Mola tunnel project in the port of Soller. Entrance to this 1,329 m tunnel will be located on the harbour road. The tunnel will provide rapid access to Plaza de los Reis de Mallorca through the Sa Mola hill. The project, which total length is 2,274 m, requires to cover 546 m of the Sa Figuera torrent. The scheme is for a two-way carriageway, 11.5 m in width, accomodating two 3.5 m-wide lanes plus two 1.5 m-wide pavements. Promociones y Proyectos S.L. is the designer. But the final design will be reviewed by the construction company. Work to start in October 2004 for completion at spring 2006. The tunnel will cost EUR21.5 million and will take 15 ½ months to build. The new road spans 2.2 km, whereof 1,329 m correspond to the tunnel.
