A joint venture of Pietro Oberosler, Wipptaler Bau, Jakob Rammlmair and Codelfa has been awarded the construction contract of a 2.6 km section of the Val Sarentino national road SS 508. Requires three bidirectional single bore tunnels: di Valle (627 m), centrale (365 m), and di Monte (76 m). Radius 5.25 m, height 4.75 m. carriageway width 7.5 m (two lanes of 3.25 m). Drill/blast except for the first metres which will require an umbrella vault. Two drives, one on the first tunnel and one on the second. When the second tunnel is completed, there will be two headings on the first tunnel. The contract is worth €13.7 million, which represents a 39% discount on the tender budget. The project entails the construction of two tunnels. The first is 1,520 m long, whereof 1,475 m in bored tunnel and the remainder in cut and cover at the portals. The second tunnel is nearly 2 km long and includes two 25 m-long false tunnels at the entrances. The pilot tunnel will be TBM-built, at an estimated cost of EUR10 million. Work to commence in summer 2007. The TBM will be used in the Bolzano-Sarentino direction to drive a first section, then will cross the Goldegg cave prior to boring a second section until the uphill junction with SS 508. E-mail gare-11.5@provincia.bz.it 14/07.Oberosler, Demoter, Rammlmair and Edilpassiria received a EUR5.8 million contract to bore the Sarntal pilot tunnel as part of a 4.8 km upgrading of trunk road SS 508 in Sarentino valley. The project consists of two 3.5 m-wide bores, 1,990 metres and 1,500 metres. In a second stage, they will be widened to make two single-tube bidirectional tunnels to accommodate two 3.5-wide lanes, two 50 cm-wide shoulders and two 1 m-wide pavements. Tenders for the enlargement of the pilot bores are scheduled in winter 2008-spring 2009. Construction to commence in spring 2009 for end in 2010.
