The completion of the Catania-Siracusa highway has been approved on 28th February by all the interested players namely the Sicily region, the provinces and municipalities, and ANAS, the national road administration. The 26 km section will connect Passo Martino to Villasmundo. The final design will be carried out by a jv headed by Fiat Engineering. The highway will have two 12.5 m-wide dual-lane carriageways. There will be nine tunnels, four cut-and-cover and five bored. The overall cost of the infrastructure amounts to €587 million.
