Concrete portals about 200 m and 8.5 km of roads connecting the tunnel to existing roads. The geology consists of rock series of basalt layers dipping 5-8° to the south-west, comprising relatively thin sedimentary interbeds. The tunnel route crosses numerous fault zones and dyke intrusions. Drill/blast with support mostly with rockbolts and shotcrete. Work start in April 2003. Hédinsfjördur consists of two tunnels, 3.7 and 6.9 km in length, concrete portals about 440 m (4 portals) and approximately 3.2 km of new roads. The width is 7.6 m. Standard cross section is 53 sq m.
