Eiffage/ACS/Setec/Arcadis/Sener consortium has completed boring the 8.5 km-long, 3.5 m-diameter cable tunnel between Spain and France. On 22.04.2013 Spanish TBM Albera met French TBM Canigo at its stop position in the centre of the drive. The 320 kV electricity transmission line to be installed in the tunnel will double the electricity exchange capacity between the two countries to 2,800 MW with a carbon dioxide reduction of 2.3 million t/year from more efficient use of existing generation capacity. The project is part of the European Recovery Plan.
