Metro

Line 1 is under construction from south to north across the city and is planned for 23 km and 21 stations. Southern section to city centre is complete and in operation, and another section connecting with the Swietokrzyska and Ratusz stations is due to open soon. Hydrobudowa-6 SA, the Polish affiliate of Bilfinger & Berger reports that it has constructed six of the 12 stations completed to date, together with two tunnel sections and a depot. Lines 2 & 3 are planned to be shield driven. When completed, the network will have a route length of 70 km with 70 stations. Contact through www.bub.de February 2000.Shielded TBM construction of current 1.6 km extension with 2 boxed stations nearing completion for opening early-2001. Further 8.5 km-long, 5.5 m-diameter extension in design by PRG Metro/Pebeka Lubin/Metroprojekt for shielded TBM and some cut and cover in sand, clay and silt, with 7 boxed stations. Invitations to tender expected end-2000. Visit www.bilfingerberger.com October 2000.Mostostal Warszawa signed a PLN93.4 million contract with a consortium of PRG Metro and PeBeKa to build Slodowiec metro station (A20) and a manoeuvring side track (B21) on Line 1 of the Warsaw metro. The scope of the works encompasses comprehensive execution of the Slodowiec station and a crossover section behind it with switches and a 207 m-long siding (B21). This will allow for the trains to turn back and the Slodowiec stop to be fully operational even when the works on the remaining sections of the northern extension of Line 1 between the station and the future terminus at Mlociny (A23) are still in progress. The 155 m-long station will be built in 60 cm-thick structural slurry walls utilizing the "top down" method. Mostostal will build the three consecutive stations for Warsaw's metro system: Slodowiec (A20), Stare Bielany (A21) and Wawrzyszew (A22), including the track tunnels in between. This represents a total of about 2 km. Visit www.mostostal.waw.pl 31-32/06.A consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and its Spanish mother company Acciona Infraestructuras signed a PLN217.7 million contract with Warsaw Metro to build two underground stations, Stare Bielany (A21) and Wawrzyszew (A22), with adjoining tunnels (B21 and B22). Both stations and the connecting tunnels comprise the longest segment through the Bielany district, which is the northern, terminal segment of the first metro line in Warsaw. The route will pass through areas free of immediate buildings, characterised by a much lower concentration of infrastructure than in the centre of the capital, which is why the whole stretch of the line will be executed in slurry walls using the cut-and-cover method. The double-track tunnel B21 between Slodowiec and Stare Bielany stations, which is 773 m long and 9.8 m wide, has been designed as a two-aisle monolithic reinforced concrete box, with a row of dividing columns in the middle, to be executed in an open trench. The B22 tunnel between Stare Bielany and Wawrzyszew stations, with internal dimensions of 4.8 m by 8.85 m and length of 655 m, will be built using the "top down" method with 60 cm-thick structural slurry walls. The tracks will be located at depths ranging from 4.5 to 9 metres below the surface. The Stare Bielany station (A21), comprising three 182.5 m-long aisles, will be built by the "roof first" technique. The 149 m-long Wawrzyszew station (A22) will be executed in steel anchor shoring with cut-and-cover method. The assignment will be executed in the record time of fifteen and a half months and will be completed by October 2007. Visit www.acciona.es 31-32/06.A consortum of PeBeKa and PRG Metro received a PLN297 million contract to build tunnel B23 on metro line 1 in Warsaw between Wawrzyszew and Mlociny stations, including 669 m of two-track twin-tube tunnel, to be built between diaphragm walls, and underground station Mlociny (A23), 142 m in length. The previously qualified consortia led by the France's Vinci and by Spain's Ferrovial together with Budimex Dromex did not place their offers in the tender. Metro Warszawskie estimated the gross price at PLN2.8 billion but the offers range from nearly PLN5.9 billion to PLN6.2 billion. The lowest bid was made by a consortium of PBG, Hydrobudowa Polska, PRG Metro, Alpine Bau and Spain's FCC with its offer standing at PLN5,885 million. The second offer of PLN5,978 million was made by Mostostal Warszawa, Acciona Infraestructuras, Strabag, Dywidag and PeBeKa. The third offer of Dragados, Pol-Aqua, Trakcja Polska and two other Spanish companies amounts to PLN6,226 million. All three consortia pledge to build the segment from Daszynski Roundabout to Wilenski train station in 42 months. The section includes seven stations (Daszynski Roundabout, ONZ Roundabout, Swietokrzyska, Nowy Swiat, Powisle, Stadion and Dworzec Wilenski). However, the best offer in economic terms was placed by the consortium led by Mostostal Warszawa. This consortium's price does not include an advanced payment by the contractor and thus it may be ranked first. The final decision has not been made yet. The whole execution of the investment is under threat as the offers exceed by far the anticipated budget.
