Dublin Corporation and the National Roads Authority in Ireland have announced the award the $450 million design/construct contract for the Port Tunnel to Nishimatsu Mowlem Irishenco. The port road will be a 5.6 km-long dual carriageway, most of which will be in a 4.5 km-long twin-tube tunnel. Construction will commence in early 2001, using two TBMs to accelerate the overall process. The tunnel should open in mid-2004 to provide a high quality access route for the 2 million trucks that currently travel through the city each year to the port. The first tunnel on section C (tunnel #2) is named Hachoresh tunnel and is 2 x 1.2 km long. It was originally part of section B but has been integrated into section C further to project changes. The second tunnel (tunnel #3) is named Hachamisa and is 2 x 11.5 km long. The contract is expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2008 for work to commence in April. The short tunnel #2 will be built in softer ground than tunnel #3. About 300 metres in the west part on each bore of tunnel #2 will be built using the cut-and-cover method. The long tunnel will be driven from west to east probably by a double shield hard rock TBM (3/4 of the length) and from east to west by drill and blast (1/4 of the length). Geology is hard rock, mainly dolomites. The closer to Jerusalem, the harder the rock. The tunnels will be 9.2 m in diameter. From order to proceed to completion, construction will take 44 months. The Electra Bogl JV group, comprising Electra Ltd, Electra Infrastructures, Hasharon Excavators Ltd, Signon Schweitz AG, and Max Bogl Bauunternemung GmbH & Co KG., has been awarded the EUR170 million contract for planning, construction, and maintenance of the track and systems of the A1 high-speed route Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport - Jerusalem. Construction will include laying 46 km of track; setting up electromechanical systems that support railway operation, management, coordination, and supervision; and integration of all the installed systems. The final breakthrough of the second bore of the 11.6 km-long tunnel 3 between Yitla creek and Mevaseret Zion on the A1 fast rail link took place on 06.10.2014, marking completion of tunnelling on the project. The bridges and the new station in Jerusalem are in the final stages of construction. The railway infrastructure work is slated for completion in 2017, and commercial operation of the line is expected in 2018.   Contract awarded to jv of Dragados and Ashtrom for 9.6 m-wide twin tubes, 1.7 km-long at the east side in hard dolomite using drill/blast and 3.3 km-long at the west through chalk, volcanic tuff and dolomite by roadheader. Initial support by resin bolts, arches and shotcrete and final lining reinforced concrete. Excavation to commence in 2000 for completion in 2005. Design consultants Intecsa, value $135 million. June 1999.Carmelton, the consortium that won the tender in 1998 to construct the Carmel tunnel project in Haifa, has subcontracted the building of the tunnel to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The Carmel tunnel project involves the construction of two dual-lane tunnels of 5.5 km each under Mount Carmel, connecting the northern and southern arteries of Haifa. An award is pending. 12/03.The three shortlisted groups for the first phase of the Tel Aviv light rail are Siemens, Aecon Group, HTM, Africa-Israel Investments, and Egged Bus Cooperative; Bombardier, RATP, Bouygues, Property & Building, and Dan Bus Cooperative; and Alstom, Connex, Ashtrom, Housing & Construction Holding, and Polar Investments.The 22 km first phase includes 7.5 km of tunnels. 30/03.Five companies have joined forces to make up the Metropolitan Transportation Solution (MTS) consortium, which is competing in the Tel Aviv light railway tender. The companies are Africa-Israel Investments, Egged Bus Cooperative, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Portugal's Soares da Costa and Siemens. Each company will have a 20% share in the consortium, which will be led and managed by Africa-Israel. The tender is for the digging and construction of two light rail lines, one from Petah Tikva to Rishon LeZion, and the other from the Glilot junction in north Tel Aviv to western Rishon LeZion, with several branches and sublines. Construction will take an estimated 5-10 years. 27/04.MTS, a consortium which consists of Africa-Israel, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Soares da Costa, the Egged bus cooperative, Siemens, and the leading Dutch transportation company HTM won a BOT contract for the 22 km Red Line. The contract is worth ILS7.1 billion, the biggest private sector contract ever tendered in Israel's history. MTS' bid was just ILS400 million under that of rival Metrorail, who bidded at ILS7.5 billion. The defeated Metrorail consortium is expected to file suit against the award to MTS. Even if MTS finally succeeds, it will have first to finish detailed planning and overcome many other financial and administrative difficulties, including working with the mayors of five different municipalities along the route. NTA awarded to the Solel Boneh (49%) and China Rail Tunnel Group (51%) Joint Venture the contract for the design and build of the tunnel section from Hertzl Shaft to the Ben Gurion Station which is part of the Red Line in Tel Aviv.  This section will be driven by 6 TBMs. The contract includes 11 km of 5·5 m diameter twin tunnels linked by 16 cross passages with 6 underground stations (Allenby, Yehudit, Shaul Hamelech, Arlozorov, Abba Hillel and Bialik). The 23 km Red Line will link Petakh Tikva, to the northeast of Tel Aviv, with Bat Yam to the south; it is expected to open for traffic in 2021. Invitation for Pre-Qualification, deadline 13.12.2018, to participate in tenders for the Tel Aviv Metropolitan LRT Network - Green and Purple lines. The Green Line will connect the southern parts (Rishon Lezion and Holon) and northern parts (Hertzliya and Kiryat Atidim) of the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area, to the Tel-Aviv city centre. The Green Line is planned to run mostly at street level (34 km of “at-grade” tracks) and partly underground (5 km of underground tracks) including 58 stops “at-grade” and 4 underground stations.

The 29 km at-grade Purple Line will connect the eastern parts of the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area (Ramat Gan, Yehud, Or Yehuda, Petach Tikvah and Givat Shmuel) to the Tel-Aviv city centre with 44 stops. Public Tender, deadline 15.05.2019, for the Design Build of Two Bored (TBM) Single Track Tunnels, Portals and Station Outer Boxes for the Green Line Project. The Green line is a light rail line for the Tel Aviv metropolitan area mass transit system. The length of the line is approximately 39km, of which 4.5km are underground, with 61 stations, five of which are underground (the Levinski,  Carlebach, Dizengoff, Kikar Rabin/Municipality, and Arlozorov stations). Postponed until the 21.02.2019 the deadline for the invitation for Pre-Qualification to Participate in Tenders for the Tel Aviv Metropolitan LRT Network - Green and Purple lines. The Green Line will connect the southern parts (Rishon Lezion and Holon) and northern parts (Hertzliya and Kiryat Atidim) of the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area, to the Tel-Aviv city centre. The Green Line is planned to run mostly at street level (34 km of “at-grade” tracks) and partly underground (5 km of underground tracks) including 58 stops “at-grade” and 4 underground stations.

The 29 km at-grade Purple Line will connect the eastern parts of the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area (Ramat Gan, Yehud, Or Yehuda, Petach Tikvah and Givat Shmuel) to the Tel-Aviv city centre with 44 stops. Any requests for clarification must be sent to ntatender@nta.co.il, attn Irit Rachovin.
