A new 1,499.74 m-long tunnel will be built on the Huesca-bound carriageway, whereof 116.43 m in cut-and-cover. A five-phase tunnelling method will be used in top heading / benches / invert sequence. The contract also includes all the necessary outfit to guarantee safety. Three cross passages will also be drilled between the new tunnel and the existing one, two for pedestrians and one for vehicles. A control centre will will also be constructed to manage the existing and future tunnels between Nueno and Jaca on the A-23. In general, the roadway carries two 3.5 m-wide lanes, a 2.5 m outer shoulder, a 1 m inner shoulder and 75 cm berms.
