On 14.06.2013 Anas started work on the four-lane adaptation of the 11.56 km Lanzo-Ornate section in Civitella Paganico and Monticiano municipalities of the SS 223 Paganico (lots 5-6-7-8), part of the new E78 Grosseto-Siena expressway.Among the proposed works: on the northbound carriageway, toward Siena, the adaptation of existing 1,558 m Casal di Pari rock tunnel, the construction of the new 510 m Poggio Terriccio rock tunnel and of the 119 m Casal di Pari cut/cover tunnel; on the southbound carriageway, toward Grosseto, the adaptation of the existing 362 m Poggio Terriccio rock tunnel, the construction of the two rock tunnels Casal di Pari and Greppoli and seven cut/cover tunnels, for a total length of 1,010 m.The JV Strabag/Intercantieri Vittadello Spa was awarded the contract in August, 2011.
