Work begins on largest US mass transit project Work is scheduled to begin this month on the Mass Transit Tunnel to link New Jersey with New York. The DoT has committed $3 billion to the project over its lifespan, with $130 million coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It is the largest-ever commitment to a US transportation project, and is expected to create 6,000 design and construction jobs. 24/09.
