TBM Catherina-Amalia broke through on the 10th of
January 2019 to complete the Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel in the Hague. The TBM
was 80 metres long and 11 meters in diameter and bored a tunnel that was 1640 meters
long, excavating over 300,000 m3 of muck. The tunnel is part of the Rotterdamsebaan,
the road that will connect the A4 and A13 motorways to the Hague centre ring
from July 2020.
Alderman Boudewijn Revis (Urban Development) said 'The new
entrance to The Hague was built with great skill and dedication. The drilling
of the Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel went smoothly and safely and the final
phase of the construction of the Rotterdamsebaan can now begin. From the summer
of 2020, The Hague will have an important new entrance by road so that the
Binckhorst can be reached quickly from the motorway by the thousands of new
residents. The new tunnel is also good for the accessibility of our growing
city'.
