On 24.01.2015 the 4.9 km-long first lot of Varese orbital motorway opened between A8 interconnection at Gazzada Schianno and Vedano Olona near Varese municipality.

The stretch includes the 2.1 km-long rock tunnel in Morazzone and a 440 m cut/cover tunnel that connects the motorway with the existing Vedano viaduct.

The 14.6 km-long section A of Pedemontana Lombarda connecting the A8 (Cassano Magnano) and A9 (Lomazzo) motorways, and including the Solbiate Olona (685 m) and Gorla (1,270 m) cut/cover tunnels and the 475 m-long Solbiate Olona rock tunnel has also opened.
