Turin/Lyon - The EU allocates another EUR 700 million to the cross-border section of the project

17/07/2024

The European Commission has announced the funding distribution for projects benefiting from the third edition (2024-2027 period) of the CEF, the EU’s programme for strategic investments in transport infrastructure.

Within this programme, the cross-border section of the new Lyon-Turin railway line will receive a contribution of EUR 700 million: this is the third largest European investment among the 134 projects selected, and the first in terms of the amount financed among Italian and French projects.

This funding, together with those from France and Italy, ensures the financial covering necessary to continue the work.

This contribution represents part of the expected funding to continue with the work. TELT and the Italian and French states will participate in any new EU calls for tenders to complete the co-financing of this important European infrastructure. TELT will also remain in contact with the European Commission if further funding becomes available from now until 2027.

To date, 37.3 km (13.7 km for the base tunnel) of the 164 km of tunnels planned for the project have been excavated. The construction sites, which currently employ more than 2,500 people, will have 4,000 workers directly hired at the peak of the activities.
