On the 02.09.2016 Sound Transit contractors, the joint venture JCM Northlink LLC, composed of Jay Dee Contractors, Frank Coluccio Construction Company, and Michels Corporation, have completed the last tunnel segment for the Northgate Link Extension twin tunnels. The TBM has holed through the wall of a southbound tunnel retrieval shaft from Northgate to the University of Washington Station.
Since work started in 2014, two TBMs (6,55 m diameter, 600 t weight) have excavated more than 382.0 m3 of soil from the northbound and southbound tunnels and installed 7,352 concrete tunnel lining rings. All six of the tunnels on the project are now complete. They will be fitted with rails, power and infrastructure next. Service to Northgate will begin in 2021.
