Last week the HRBT Expansion Project hit a major milestone as the first set of tunnel segments arrived by barge to the South Island from the precast plant in Cape Charles, VA. Nine (9) tunnel segments makes one tunnel ring, and the TBM Mary will place a total of 21,492 segments (2,388 rings) to complete both tunnels. This first shipment of tunnel segments will produce 20 rings which equates to approximately 40 m (130 feet) of tunnel.
