Tunnel excavation starts for the Perca Bypass in Italy

12/06/2023
The Joint Venture Strabag AG, Alpenbau GmbH, Unionbau AG and Moser & Co have started work on the PERCA bypass after months of preparatory work during the winter. Excavation started at the east adit of the tunnel using a two-arm Jumbo Bi-Arm which uses a combination of mechanical and digital innovations, and automates different phases of the excavation process. It therefore reduces human intervention during the work and also accelerates progress. The machine has been developed in the Strabag technical laboratory in Spittal an der Drau together with the Austrian company DSI Underground and the Swedish company Sandvik.    The Perca bypass  The Perca ring road includes a 2,317 m long tunnel, 632 m of which will be built in the open air. Starting from the western entrance to the village, there is an open section 358 m long. The route alignment will be partly downhill from Perca and partly uphill from the Val Pusteria state road, crossing underground at the most northern part of Vila di Sotto. The route rejoins the Val Pusteria state road at Nessano with an open section which will be 475 m long.  The tunnel will be excavated from both sides.   For further information click here https://tunnelbuilder.com/News/Works-begin-on-the-Perca-bypass-ready-for-Winter-Olympics-2026.aspx and it/275 https://tunnelbuilder.com/Archive/Projects.aspx?&projectcode=it%2f275  https://news.provincia.bz.it for the tunnelbuilder archive and also visit https://news.provincia.bz.it. 23/23.
