Tube-2 of the Nilgrar Tunnel-1 completed

On 22/11/2021 Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) achieved a breakthrough on the Zojila tunnel construction project in the Jammu Kashmir-Ladakh region. The project was awarded to MEIL in October 2020, on an EPC model. The total length of the project is 32 km and is divided into two parts.

Part I of the project includes major bridges and two tunnels. Both the tubes of tunnel one (T1) have been excavated amid harsh weather conditions. Tube 1, which is 472 m in length,  broke through  on November 4, while the 448-m tube 2 holed on November 22.

Work on tunnel 2, containing two tubes at 2 km each, are in full swing and will achieve a break through around April 2022. Construction work on Part II of the project, which is the 13.3 Km long Zojila main tunnel, is also progressing.

Once entirely completed, the all-weather tunnel project will connect Srinagar to Ladakh which currently faces connectivity issues, especially during the bad winters. It will reduce travel time between the two places by up to five hours. Click here for a video, here and in/67 for the tunnelbuilder archive. 47/21.
