A 9 km-long stretch of A16 motorway between Bure and Porrentruy was inaugurated and opened to traffic on 21.08.2014. The last link of the A16 connecting the canton of Jura with France, this highway segment sets the region Delemont less than 30 minutes from the French border, waiting for the full opening of the Transjurane in 2016. The new section includes the tunnels Bure and Bois de Montaigre. The monotube bi-directional Bure tunnel (3,059 m, 159 m of which in cut/cover) was driven by a 12.6 m-diameter TBM at rates of 18.4 m - 22.5 m in limestones and loams, with maximum advance of 36 m/day. The safety tunnel is parallel to the main tube, linked by crosspassages every 300 m. The tunnel Bois de Montaigre (North tube 811 m, South tube 892 m, 500 m of which in cut/cover) has been driven using traditional methods through limestones, with crosspassages every 300 m.
