The Toyo tunnel project in Colombia involves the construction of a new 39 km road between Santa Fe de Antioquia and Canasgordas with 16 km in tunnels, of which the 9.8 km-long Toyo tunnel will be the longest in Columbia. The EUR66 million project will link Highway Mar 1 with Highway Mar 2, improving transport between Medellin and Uraba.
In January the Ministry of Transport, the National Institute of Roads, the National Agency of Infrastructure and the Departments of Antioquia and Medellin agreed to join efforts for planning, financing, contracting and the design of the project that will be divided into eight lots. Four of these lots, including that of the tunnel and the Toyo Bypass, will be funded by the Departments of Antioquia and Medellin for EUR47 million. Click co/27 for tunnelbuilder archive.
