Think Deep in Amsterdam, First Important Event in 2008Amsterdam will be the venue for the international congress on Underground space challenges in urban development on 28th and 29th January, 2008 to be held at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA), in the heart of Amsterdam. Speakers from all over the world will address the latest developments in construction, safety, urban planning, utilities and will present the latest projects and views. Noticeable keynote papers will be the Crossrail project in London, Amsterdam's north-south metro line, the Hubertus tunnel in The Hague and the multi-purpose deep tunnel (MPDT) proposed in Jakarta, similar to the recently commissioned SMART tunnel in Kuala Lumpur.The international congress is coupled with a technical exhibition. Both are part of the festival of underground space Enlightened Underground that will be held from 27th to 31st January. Enlightened Underground aims to demonstrate the achievements of underground space use to both an international and national audience. It also focuses on future challenges. For a whole week, Amsterdam will focus on this trend-setting festival which also includes the National Underground Space Day on 31st January, for more than ten years the network event in the Netherlands for everyone involved in underground construction. Site visits will be organised to Amsterdam, The Hague and Arnhem on 30th January. Films, presentations, discussions and working visits will be on the agenda during this fructuous week.
