The Cluj-Napoca City Council have approved the feasibility study (technical documentation and technical-economic indicators), drafted by the Joint Venture  SYSTRA, SWS Engineering and Metrans Engineering, for the investment objective "Metropolitan train Gilău-Florești-Cluj-Napoca-Baciu-Apahida-Jucu-Bonțida - stage I of the Cluj metropolitan rapid transport system: Metro Line I and Metropolitan Train, including the connection  between them and studies related to future investment objectives", investment component Metro Line I. 

The route option recommended by this study is: Floresti - Union Square/ Piața Unirii - Marasti Square/ Piața Mărăști – Labor-United Europe/Muncii -Europa Unita - Sopor Depot/ Depou Sopor. The route will have a length of 21.03 km and will have 19 stations and 1 depot. The total investment is estimated at  EUR 2,052,196,984 with a 128 months duration.
