The TBM in Swinoujscie reaches Wolin Island

On 19/09/2021 TBM Wyspiarka, which started the Swinoujscie tunnel construction in March this year, broke through the wall of the receiving chamber - 35 m long, 19 m wide and 18 m high - on Wolin Island. The receiving chamber was flooded with 12,000 cubic meters of water in order to equalize the pressure. The water has been then gradual pumped and for about two months, the 2,740 t and about 100 m long machine, will be gradually dismantled.

The first works related to the tunnel equipment will now begin. Works related to supporting structures, for the construction of emergency exits requiring the use of ground freezing technology are already in progress.

The 1780 m long tunnel in Swinoujscie will be the longest underwater crossing in Poland, with 1484 m driven by TBM. The project’s cost is over EUR 197.70 million ( PLN 900 million), 85% of which comes from the European Union and 15% from Swinoujscie Municipality. The works will end in the third quarter of 2022. Click here for a video, here and pl/27 for the tunnelbuilder archive.
