The Broadway Subway project is an extension of the
Millennium Line and a key link in Metro Vancouver’s transportation system. The
5.7-km line will extend the existing SkyTrain system seamlessly from VCC-Clark
Station to a new terminus station at Arbutus Street, to serve the most
congested section of the Broadway Corridor. The 5.7-km route includes about 5
km of tunnelling, 6 new underground stations and 700-m elevated line. The main
work is scheduled to start in 2020, shortly after the province picks a winning
bidder, with the new extension opening in 2025.
The Project will cost EUR1.93 bn (CAD2.83 bn), funded and
delivered by the Government of B.C., with contributions from the Government of
Canada and the City of Vancouver. The B.C. government shortlisted the
Acciona-Ghella, Broadway Connect and West 9th Partners joint ventures for the
project, about two months after closing the request for qualifications (RFQ)
stage that was issued in February 2019. The build teams will have until next
year to submit their bids for the design, build and finance project. Click ca/38
