In December TBM Joan broke through into the State Library station’s cavern 32 m under Franklin and Swanston streets in Melbourne, Australia. Thus  completing  the 1km stretch between the Metro Tunnel station sites at Parkville and the State Library.   The TBM next TBM to break through will be TBM Meg, which is digging a parallel tunnel. The TBMs will be transferred through the station box and then relaunched for the final leg of tunnelling, connecting State Library Station with Town Hall Station.  

The project’s two other TBMs, Alice and Millie, are also digging twin tunnels towards Town Hall Station from the Anzac Station site in the west.
