The TBM, that will excavate the2.4 km extension of the metro line B of Lyon from Saint-Genis-Laval to Oullins, has been christened Coline. The machine will drive a single tube tunnel with a 8.5 m diameter. TBM Coline, named after the godmother of a first-year student of Civil Engineering will start boring in  November. The launch shaft is 400 m from the future Hopitaux Sud Station. The TBM will finish by the end of 2020 at the Orsel shaft, behind the Gare d'Oullins Station, where the inner parts of the shield and the head will be disassembled. Only the external part of the shield will remain in place.

The TBM and the dismantled parts will be returned to the shaft in Saint-Genis-Laval, where they have to be extracted. The shaft will be used as a starting point for a future new extension.
