TBM Chris, launched in July 2018 has broken through on W Street as part of the Clean River Project in Washington DC.  The TBM was named Chris, in honour of Christopher Allen, the assistant director for the Clean Rivers Project who passed away in 2017.

When completed The NEBT tunnel,  the "First Street Tunnel" will be connected to the north end of the Anacostia River Tunnel and thus all tunnels are going to form a complete system by 2023. The "Clean Rivers Project" in Washington, D.C. will ensure that 96% less untreated sewage is discharged into the Potomac River, the Anacostia River and Rock Creek.
