By the end of 2018 the Federal Roads Office in Switzerland will will have provided all the national road tunnels that are more than 300 m long with DAB + technology. Tunnels below this length do not need to have DAB+ systems. The costs of providing this technology will be about EUR27.6 million, these measures are necessary due to the migration from FM to digital radio.

In the tunnels with pending major maintenance program, the digital upgrade will take place simultaneously with the renovation works. New tunnels that are planned will automatically by law have to fit the  standard DAB + technology. All systems will be equipped to withstand any interference by outside elements which is an integral part of tunnel safety in the modern world.
